No religion talk in the work place....

There is a reason they say no religion talk in the work place. It's because no matter what is exchanged there is usually to different sides that think they both are right. Last night at work a man I work with who grew up LDS asked me at a table if I was watching the Presidential election. I told him no not really (mainly because I can't stand watching the news! ). A supervisor of mine (who is black, I would not have mentioned his race but it is important in this story) sat down and gave his rude comment about Romney and I just sat there and ignored him. He then went on to say "When were blacks able to start going to church there." No one said anything so I chimed in and said " What you are referring to is somewhere around the 70's, but blacks were always welcome to go to church" He then stated "EXACTLY!!!! Friggin ridiculous religion, that is friggin messed-up."

After that I decided not to speak any more, because he felt so strongly and basically yelled at me! After he mentioned his comments and keep the comments coming about 3 other people all started in as well saying that they probably did it for more money and lots of other things. I was so sick to my stomach that I just left. I went down to the photo lab and thought about how I wanted to go tell a manager about this supervisor, and how terrible and uncomfortable I felt now around this supervisor of mine.

I called Derek crying, and he told me not to worry and don't say anything, because this supervisor would probably hate me worse if I did bring it up to a manager.

I am not ashamed of my religion. I am not a coward. I AM non-confrontational though. I would much rather ignore a situation then confront it! That is just how I am. One of the comments given last night just made me laugh. The man that brought the whole thing up came up to me later and apologized for the situation. He then said that it is funny how every person who is not Mormon has something terrible to say about Mormons, but everyone who is Christian or Catholic or whatever doesn't really have much to say about those other religions!  Oh well I just hope that this situation can be forgotten and everyone will just act normal! I know though from my prospective it will be hard for me to ever respect this supervisor again!
