Yes I do hate the dentist!

About a week ago Derek told me....I have a huge hole in my tooth. I think my filling might have fallen out.....

Ok anything that has to do with medical insurance or dental insurance scares the crap out of me. Of course this was not taken lightly. The first thing I did was talk to a friend that is a dental hygenist. She told me to get him in right away. So we went to the dentist this morning.

Now mind you Derek doesn't have dental so we figured it would be expensive, but boy we were not expecting this.

We got up at 5:40am to get to the dentist by 6:40am since it is all the way across town. At 7:15am Derek went back and at about 8:45 I saw him again. They had him pay $296.00 and I thought "oh man $300.00 is a lot but that isn't too bad" well I thought too soon.

Derek paid and we walked outside and he said "did they tell you anything" and I said no. Then Derek showed me a piece of paper. It was his "plan". It consisted of 6 visits totaling $5300.00.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! Seriously can I get a break for once with this guy....Year one of marriage: ACL Surgery....Year Two: Wrist surgery....and now Year Three and the most expensive..... A NEW GRILL!!!! Seriously the $5300.00 covers fixing 15 cavities (and fixing ones that were put in years ago) and he has to have a root canal which will be another $2000.00 or so. So basically there goes all of our money.

I think it is absolutely crazy. The real problem is not that Derek doesn't take care of his teeth. The real problem is his genes. He has terrible enamel problems, which is making his fillings fall out. And he grinds his teeth really ad in his sleep (just like his dad) so he has been grinding away his teeth that have bad enamel to begin with.

As I was talking to people at work about it my manager said "Ok here is the solution....go to Mexico have them take out all of his teeth and give him implants. He can do it for like $2500.00" I love Janet and seriously considered this offer!

I hate everything about this experience this morning. Once again even though I myself got medical about a month ago for the first time in 3 years I am still so afraid to go to the doctors because of situations like this!

My first question is do you trust this dentist? Ok, my only question. The rest of my thoughts are all sympathetic. I have been putting mine off even though when I smile and cold air blows onto one tooth, it kills :(

I'm sorry! Have you thought about getting a second opinion? What a bummer. Sounds expensive and painful!!

hey! I feel your pain seriously! I found this website while doing some research awhile back and maybe it will help you out. http://www.freedentalcare.us/re/mountain
It's a list of sliding scale dentists in AZ. We went to one of these in ID and a root canal only cost us $150. It was awesome. Check it out, it's worth it.

I would definitely get a second opinion girl! I went to a dentist and they wanted to send me to a specialist for a root canal it would have cost close to a thousand. I just had them pull the dang tooth! If it's towards the back...nobody is gonna see it anyways and it saves a bunch of money. White trash I know...but still!
