Today we got up super early to head off to the Phoenix Zoo. We got up early not because the zoo was far or anything like that it was because the zoo is only open from 7am to 2pm because of the heat out here. It was a long day but at the same time a fun day. It was fun to see Derek get excited about the zoo as well. He said the last time he had gone was when he was going to school at Nancy Cory (which was elementary). We started the day off riding a petal boat. Morgan insisted on pedaling with Derek so in the end Derek pedaled by himself. We then went to the petting zoo, which was the goat zoo. We hung out with the goats for a little the went all around the zoo. Our favorites from the zoo trip today were the Little Monkeys. You went in a cage and they were all just roaming around you. It was very neat but at the same time a little scary considering I have hated monkey since I saw the movie "Outbreak" 10 years ago. Morgan's favorite thing of the day was of course the sting ray exhibit where she was able to pet the stingrays! She loved it so much that her treat from the gift shop was a stuffed animal stingray. The other exciting animal of the day was the Tiger! When we first saw him he was pacing the back wall of his cage nothing to exciting, but then as we began walking away he started roaring!!!! Have you ever heard a tiger roar in the zoo? I haven't! It was AMAZING! It was such a deep roar straight from his gut and he just kept on doing it over and over for about 5 to 10 minutes. Yes we stayed there the whole time to watch and listen. We thought maybe he was hunger, but later as we went on the train ride and the train driver told us about all of the animals she said that they were getting ready to mate the male and the female tiger. The female was in a back cage (that is why the male was pacing the back wall). They said that the male was ready but the female still needed to mature a little! And that is the reason he was roaring!
The one thing I thought was funny about today....as we were walking around the zoo it started getting really hot. I asked my mom what time it was thinking it was probably about noon-ish because of how hot it was. Her reply was...."9am" SERIOUSLY I don't know if I am ready for the rest of this summer. It was so hot out there today! All and all it was a great time at the Phoenix Zoo with my family.
