I have always believed in Derek and the multiple things he does. Last night I took a chance to watch him from a far and was amazed at the person he is.

Last night Derek started his Men's League baseball season (wood bat league). There were four or five games going on and we had no clue what team he was on. He just knew his coach, but it is so hard to find a coach in the middle of the game. As we were standing there out of no where we heard people yelling "Derek over here". I looked at Derek and said "Well that's a good sign!" We were a little scared before that Derek would get into this league and not play, but right away he got in the dug out and the coach told him that in two innings he would be pitching and he is 3rd up to bat! Wait, what....he is going to bat?!? He instantly got into the game. He got walked twice and hit a double, which was a great hit to opposite field! Then he got five strikeouts using all KNUCKLE BALLS!!!!! It was great the knuckle balls were moving so much that the catcher could not catch them so twice Derek would get strike 3 while the batter was just watching and the ball would fall out of the catchers glove and they would have to get the out at 1st. It was such a great start to hopefully a great season! I guess it is time to buy a wood bat for his birthday!

Of course none of that is what makes Derek amazing. What makes him amazing is he went into that dugout knowing no one and instantly was laughing with the guys and joking with them. He was speaking English one minute and Spanish the next. He instantly made the guys feel comfortable enough to give him a nickname and joke around. With watching Derek last night I know for a fact that he will someday be a great teacher, coach, and dad!
