Before we went to the hospital Morgan and I made New Years outfits for her and Summer. On January first Summer and I got up and watched the Rose Parade. Then families came and visited. It was a very nice relax day since the day before we had so many visitors. I also made the girls matching bows. I think their bows are pretty cute. Also during our relaxed day Morgan and I took some time to play her new game battleship that Derek and I got her for Christmas.
On January 2 we were ready to leave the hospital. There were a couple of things that worried everyone about Summer going home that they monitored often so we had to wait to get the ok to go home. Summer was 10lbs 12oz when she was born. She started loosing weight day after day of being in the hospital because my milk had not come in. She would nurse like crazy all the time but was not getting the food that she needed. She had lost more then 10% her birth weight and on the night of the 1st they had us start supplementing her with formula. I knew she needed it obviously, but I was very worried about it. Summer would take the bottle very well because it was a small nipple and then she would be lazy nursing on me and wouldn't want to. I tried to tell myself every time we nursed that once my milk came in everything would be fine, but it was still very hard because the one thing I have wanted to do since day one was breastfeed. So we just took it a feeding at a time and fought with Summer for a half hour to nurse for 10 minutes before she would get the bottle. In the morning of the 2nd the pediatrician told us that she felt Summer was perfectly fine to go home a long as she had a doctors appt before the week end. The whole reason they were so worried was because she wasn't eating she was looking a little jaundice. Her numbers were medium low so she never had to go under lights, but she was constantly being weighted and checked once we supplemented to make sure her weight went up and the jaundice numbers went down. And they did. At about 8am on the 2nd Summer got cleared to go home, but I had to wait for my doctor to clear me. Well my doctor was in a long delivery so we were waiting to go home and didn't get cleared until 4pm that evening! 8am to 4pm is a crazy long time when you are just sitting around with family waiting to leave. At 4pm we had Summer in her beautiful nightgown that Chris Lewis made her to go home in. Chris Lewis is a good family friend that was in my home ward my whole life. She made my temple gown that I was married to my husband in and I absolutely love both of these gowns that were made for me and my baby girl! At 4pm we went home and our car was decorated and just got home to rest. It was a great hospital delivery and stay. I told Derek that if all my deliveries were that easy we could have 10 kids! We were so blessed through this whole experience of having our first child. We were blessed with a great delivery, great nurses, great doctor, great stay, easy breastfeeding, a healthy baby, and a speedy recovery. In the last week I have asked my husband for many priesthood blessings and I am so grateful for him and the worthy husband that he is to give me those blessings whenever I need them! This was one of the best experiences of my life a words can not describe the deeper love that I have for my husband as a father and the love that I have for my baby girl!!!
