Life has been a little crazy lately! I have been all about getting as many hours as possible at work. On my birthday this year I got up. Took Derek to school, went to work from 12:15pm to 8:45pm, and then the fun began. When Derek picked me up from work I opened the car door and to my surprise balloons fell out. Derek had blown up balloons and put them all in the car. Then we drove the car across the street to the Chandler Mall were we enjoyed a wonderful dinner with Eric, Alexis, and Oliver. After dinner it was off to the house where Derek tried to surprise me with a decorated house, but he left the light on and the blinds open so I could see the balloons as we drove up. Once inside he told me to wait in the bedroom while he worked on something. For about 5 minutes I could hear him struggling. Finally he said "This is not going to work". I asked him if I could help and he said no. He them walked into the room with melted (not lit) candles on a cake and started to sing. I told him to stop and I let him know where the lighters in our house were. He had tried to lit the candles on our electric stove....hence the melted but not lit candles. As he was lighting the candles he said "Good thing you had this because they were like four bucks to buy." Really who buys candles with out a lighter or matches! He then turned off the lights and did an amazing solo of the Happy Birthday song! I am so glad that even though the big celebration will be this weekend in Palm Springs with family that my husband was able to make it a special day for me! Oh yeah, Derek also got me my favorite cake...a slice of the chocolate motherload cake from Claim Jumpers!

Cute! I'm glad you got your "Happy Birthday" song from Derek! :) Thanks for letting us go to dinner with you guys! It was a blast!
OK, didn't think it was possible but I just fell in love with you two even more. So cute.
Happy birthday!! 27?? I totally thought you were like 24 :) so funny about the candles and no matches. At least he remembered the important stuff like the chocolate and cake!!
Ah! Derek never ceases to amaze me when it comes to your birthday. I remember when you were first dating and your birthday was near. He asked me to go with him to get you a gift. It seemed like we looked in every store at every thing. Nothing was the perfect gift for you. Finally, I asked him if you were more than a friend, and he said YES! Oh my gosh! Derek was falling in love! You were part of the family from then on. The rest is history!
